46. Judgement Matt 7: 1-5 Matt 25: 31-32.
There is an apparent paradox in Scripture primarily in the New Testament about whether or not we are to judge. There are a number of passages which tell us when we are to Judge and just about as many telling us when we are not to judge. I have done a considerable amount of study in this area over the years under David Pauson, Derek Prince, Jack Hayford and 1 or 2 Others,so I have pulled out my notes & can feel relatively safe and authentic with what I have to say.
First we'll look at some Scriptures which tell us
us not to judge...Matthew 7.1-5. Jesus is saying here
emphatically, “Do not judge,” If we do, the judgement we use will come back on us. and I believe it will do so from two sources, Human & Divine. People will judge us as we judge them. In addition God will judge us the way we judge others. In Romans 2.1-3 Paul is addressing Religious people, then, as now. Religious people seem to think, because of who they are, they have all the answers and can prove others wrong therefore that makes them right. In fact this is not so. A person who is always judging others is usually wrong themselves. A little further on in the same chapter ie Rom. 2. 10-16.. & again 1 Cor. 4. 1-5. This is a remarkable statement from Paul; He's saying I'm not aware of anything I've done wrong, but that did not justify him, or prove him righteous. God alone is his & indeed everyone’s judge He will do the justifying & condemning. One last scripture against judging. Taken from the Epistle of James 4.11-12. Here James is specifically speaking about believers who speak evil against other believers. As Christians we are warned against doing this, yet many of us do just that & regularly. We need to remember this is contrary to Scripture and The Lord will deal servilely with anyone who persists in doing so.
Now for some Scriptures advocating Judgement.
John 7.24 In this case Jesus was telling them how to judge. Then in Corr 5.1-5. Notice that Paul says he had already judged & he required the Corinthian church to endorse his judgement. Furthermore it was an extremely severe judgement to deliver a man over to Satan. In the same chapter ie. 5. 11-13. Paul distinguishes between the believers & unbelievers. In this instance we are not responsible to judge the unbelievers, but we are required to judge the believers. Again in the same Epistle Corr 6. 1-4. Paul is establishing 2 points 1st is negative. It is wrong for a Christian to take another Christian to face the law in a Non-Christian court. On the positive side however, Christians are required to judge internal disputes between fellow Christians. Finally look at what Jesus says in Matthew 18. 15-17. If Christians can't settle disputes among themselves, ultimately it has to go before the church. That is not an option, it's a commandment. We are not free to leave disputes unresolved, in fact we are obligated to take them before the church. If a person refuses to accept the decision of the church, he looses his right to be treated as a believer. This is a solemn statement from Paul which few Christians take heed of these days, they would rather throw all their toys out of the cot and go to join another group, but in the time of Paul and the Apostles there were no other groups, or Christian churches like Anglicans, Baptists, Presbyterian etc. However, the basic principal is as valid to day as it was then, unresolved disputes lead to disunity in the Body of Christ & need to be dealt with quickly & honestly by a good healthy Bible believing Christian church.
We can now see the resolution of the paradox. The confusion arose when the Jews wanted a king. Prior to that, the King was the Judge there was no supreme court or court of appeal the Kings word was the final judgement. So we see that God's design originally for Israel was “King & Judge”. In fact the sacred word for God was applied to Judges “Elohim” Why? because they took God's place to judge His people, they had the authority of God, this was born out by the fact that they were permitted to use the name of God Himself “Elohim” it is a measure of the tremendous sanctity and authority which God attaches to the position of Judge when they Judge with righteousness. There are a couple of scriptures I've chosen to clarify this. Genesis 18.25. Right in the beginning of the Bible God is establishing a principal that I believe holds throughout scripture, it is contrary to Scripture to treat the righteous as the wicked. Our contemporary culture resents authority & law enforcement, we assume the primary function of Judging is to punish the wicked, whereas it is & always should be to protect the innocent & righteous, which seldom if ever happens today. One only needs to look at the court pages to see how criminals are treated in comparison to victims this is a typical instance of our perverted thinking in modern culture. We must always bear in mind that the primary function of Justice is to protect the righteous. It is never in line with God's will to deal with the wicked as with the righteous. In this connection, a word about divorce, I believe it is contrary to Scripture to treat the innocent party the same as the guilty. That is a denial of the basic principal of Scripture. In the words of Abraham:---”far be it from you to do such a thing... that the righteous should be as the wicked. Far be it from You! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right.” Genesis 18.25.
God responded by implication.-- “Yes that's right Abraham, I will never depart from that principle.” So we see then that God The Ruler, is also the Judge of all the earth. This principle of Ruling and Judging should help us to understand when to judge and when not to. In psalm 82 God reproves the Judges for judging unjustly, Verse 1 says “ God stands in the congregation of the mighty, He judges among the Gods.” That's a remarkable statement, Who are the Gods? & why is He judging them? The Judges are the Gods {remember Elohim they are taking God's place} & God is judging them because they had been unjust judges using God's name & their position as Gods visible representatives to judge unrighteously. And that's the reason why we are not to judge others, first of all we have not been given that mantle or gift from God & therefore we cannot take Gods place. I'd venture to say this goes for all God's gifts . Use the gift God's given you, support others in theirs, but never ever covert or try to take on another persons gifting it will end in disaster.
The New Testament gives us more details of Judgement. 1. Peter 1:17 Peter is saying the ultimate judge is The Father, however as Jesus himself explains in John 5:22 God has delegated the job to His Son and in Matthew 25, 31 & 32 Jesus tells us The Son of Man will come on the last day in all His glory and the first thing He'll do is judge every man according to his works, in verse 27 Jesus describes Himself as The Son of Man because Jesus as a Human being can understand our human frailties, and infirmities He experienced them Himself, and we will not be able to say “You don't understand”. The delegation of authority goes further, Just as the Father delegated it to the Son, and He delegated His authority to His Word, in John 12:48 Jesus says we will be judged by His Word, and we wont have any excuse because we are so privileged not only to have our own Bibles but also have so many really good teachers available to us His word should be our most treasured possession. that's why some people in the world so desire to have a bible of their very own. Ultimately that's going to be our final judge. Scary thought isn't it?!! But I didn't write the book.!!
I see today, so many Christian Teachers, Pastors and leaders watering down God's Word, Yes He loves us, Yes he has mercy on us and yes He is the ultimate perfect Judge Who has provided us with the ultimate perfect source of help, His Holy Spirit. So we should take advantage of all the help that's available to us.
My final say on this subject is on judging without authority; I will give you three instances from scripture; you can look them up and see for yourselves. 1st.Geneses 19;9 Lot did not have any authority as a new comer in the land to deal with the men that came to his door to rape his visitors, fortunately the angels dealt with the intruders.
2nd Exodus 2;13-14. After killing an Egyptian on the first day Moses set out to deliver Israel. He tried to intervene in a Hebrew fight and was smartly put in his place “Who made you our judge”
3rd is from the New Testament Luke 12;13 and 14. by Jesus Himself You'll remember the case of the man claiming he was being cheated out of his inheritance by his brother, Jesus' words were “Who gave me the authority to judge this case.”
So we see authority and judgement go together you cannot have one without the other, If you give your eldest daughter the job of baby sitting the younger children you also give her the authority to judge what TV programmes they watch, what time they go to bed etc. otherwise her job becomes impossible. We can now establish a simple basic principal. Where we have a responsibility to rule we also have the authority to judge and conversely, where we do not have the responsibility to rule we do not have the authority to judge.
Thank you for reading these words on “Judging others”. I have taken some of my content from Derek Prince’s book “Judging When Why How”. I found it uncomplicated easy to read, understand and pass on to you. I hope I have conveyed that. God Bless.

45. PAIN VERSES PLEASURE AND SIN.
Pain is something we all have to suffer, some more than others and a number of people think at least in some cases it is inflicted by God for something they have or haven't done. This is neither true nor new, we remember the story of the blind man Jesus healed. One of the first questions the law abider’s asked Jesus was {paraphrased}“Was it his sin or his parents sin that he was born this way” Jesus' answered “It wasn't anyone's sin except that God be glorified. It was the same with the raising of Lazarus from the dead. Jesus told Martha “Don't be worried, just believe and you will see the Father glorified” and the widow of Name, when Jesus saw this grieving mother He knew that she, being a widow had not just lost her only son but also her only means of support. This raising to life would show not only that The Father would be glorified, but the love and mercy of God would also come through. So all that, begs the question does God get glorified through our pain?
No! He gets glorified through our acceptance of it, in the knowledge that we are fulfilling His will and in so doing we pray and ask for healing. A prayer like “Oh God You know all things, You know I accept Your holy Will in this discomfort, pain or disease, but I ask You in the name of Your Son Jesus to take this from me now, however, not my will but yours be done.” Jesus prayed a similar prayer in Gethsemane, and we also know that the Father never took the cross away, instead He sent an angel to minister to Him. If anyone deserved to have that up-coming suffering to be removed surely Jesus did, one drop of His precious blood would have been sufficient, but for the Father's plan to be out worked and the scriptures to be fulfilled the Passion and death of Jesus was necessary for our redemption. Of course it's not wrong to pray for healing, scripture says “By His stripes we are healed” All our sins, all our suffering, all our discomfort, was taken upon that cross So it's not wrong to pray for healing, But It's in our humble submission that God will act, not necessarily by healing or even immediately, but we can be sure our prayer is being answered, His will is being accomplished and that should be our ultimate aim, not the healing. As Christians, we have to accept that God's will is paramount and His knowledge of the situation will cover our request perhaps not in the way we think it should, but it will be for the best for us and the persons we are praying for “For who knows the mind of God.”
We know that pain, sickness and death came into the world through Adam's sin and The gates of Heaven were shut to them and us because of that sin which defiled us and scripture says “Nothing defiled shall enter Heaven” It took The death of the Son of God the only undefiled person that would ever live on earth to get those gates open for us. However, we still have to suffer the consequences of not only their sin but those we ourselves commit which often shows its’ s elf in “The curse” of sickness, pain, and death etc. So we thank God for Jesus and His Holy Spirit which He also sent to help us through this “Vale of Tears” I'm not saying God doesn't heal, we all know people who have been healed miraculously, what I am saying is God has the final say for reasons best known to Himself and we must not think because a healing is not apparent or immediate God doesn't hear or care or even that we've been too sinful, and God is paying us back or any such thing. God loves us more than we could ever imagine and He will always do what is best for us, even if it entails pain and suffering, He is on our side no matter what we have done in the past. And the only appropriate way we can approach Almighty God is through our Humble Submission to His will.
PLEASURE.
In years gone by almost any pleasure was considered sinful, so much so that people would go to church on Sundays come home and do absolutely nothing except perhaps read the Scriptures. Even to day in Jerusalem I understand there are areas where the Sabbath is a day when everything stops. However, thankfully Jesus spoke about that “The Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath” saying it's a day of rest from the week's work, a day to enjoy the pleasures of life God has given us. In his humanity man has taken this to excess, and in some cases made it sinful, so we have to ask ourselves what is sinful and what is not? Where do we draw the line? Have you noticed, as I have, how world values have changed, even WHEN GOD SPEAKS .

Have you noticed, as I have, how world values have changed, even in some churches? the line has been moved, things that were sinful yesterday are not so today, e.g. Homosexuality, Abortion, divorce, Tax evasion, changing boundary lines etc. I want to reiterate something we all know, God doesn't change, “He is the same yesterday, today and forever” What He said Centuries ago still holds good today. Rich or poor, Black or white, young or old. He expects us all to know and to understand when we are doing wrong and when we are not.
The pursuit of pleasure is not wrong, until it takes God's rightful place in our lives, read Ecclesiastes: 2 v1-8 We see there King Solomon had everything. He denied himself nothing, So pleasure is wonderful but only lasts a short time. Then boredom sets in. Boris Becka, twice Wimbledon champion was asked what was his next ambition now that he was King of Wimbledon he said “To find a way to combat the daily challenge to commit suicide.” How tragic. The captain of the team that won the Super Bowl in the U.S. football league recently said straight after the game, when all the hype had died down he went back to his Hotel room and ordered a Lamborghini, He then lay on his bed and felt so terribly empty, so he rang a Christian friend and told him how he felt “I've won everything I put my hand to and lost the only things I really treasured, I want to have my wife beside me and hold my little girl in my arms .again” He was told by his friend to get down on his knees and ask God into his life” which he did and his only ambition now is to please his Lord. I don't know if you have read Jack Huggins” He's a famous writer, and millionaire he wrote many best sellers “The Eagle Has landed“ was one of his more famous books He was asked the question “What do you know now, that you wish you had known when you were younger?” His immediate answer was “When you get to the top there's nothing there, you're all alone” You see there's only room for one on the top rung of the ladder of your heart. If that is You and your ambitions, there will be no room for the Lord and it's a very lonely place to be. The glow of anything that is achieved through selfish ambition fades very quickly. “All that glitters isn’t gold.”
If you have ever read the biography of John Wesley you will have read that when he was 10 years of age he asked his mother how would he know if something was sinful or not. That mother of 19 children took him aside and explained “Son, any pleasure that refreshes you and diminishes, dilutes or detracts from your relationship with God is an elicit pleasure and therefore it is sinful”. I don't believe any theologian could have put it better. So I repeat any thing that diminishes, dilutes or detracts from our relationship with God is sinful At least 2 of her sons went into ministry John became a preacher and Charles was a Hymnist. John at 83 became annoyed at his doctor because he was told he could only preach 14 times a week, and at 87 he wrote in his diary “Laziness is creeping in, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to rise before 5-30 in the morning,” What a burning faith that man must have had!!
I hope I have made things a little clearer for us to understand about Pain Pleasure and Sin. God made all things and said they were good, we just have to look at them in the light of God's revelation and always put Him first.
Thank you for reading my thoughts on “Pain verses Pleasure and Sin.” I hope I have been of some help.

44 BE PASSIONATE ABOUT YOUR FAITH.
Can you remember when you purchased your first car? How proud you were? How you loved it, cleaned polished and looked after it? You told all your friends about it, or rang your Gran and asked if you could take her for a drive in it? Do you have fond memories of the passion that seemed to overtake you every time you proudly took the wheel. Why? ..Because you had worked hard, saved for it and achieved your passion to have your own car
In the book of Nehemiah,we read of such a man. He was the Cup-barer to the King, and his greatest Passion was to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem, which had been demolished several years earlier. Seeing the passion Nehemiah displayed for the city of his god, the king not only gave his blessing for the rebuilding of the wall, but also supplied all the materials for the project. When people see passion and commitment they not only hold you in higher esteem, but pay more attention to what you say and do because they want to know more.
Passion is the starting point for all achievement. There has never been anyone who achieved anything of value, who wasn’t passionate about it. It’s the energy that fuels your dream. Such was the case with Nehemiah.
We need to ask ourselves, How passionate am I about my God? This God that I profess to know and love with my whole heart? Do I keep Him in Brackets or in the perimeters of human abilities. I was speaking to a lady the other day, and asked her if she believed in God, her answer, though honest, didn’t surprise me she said “God is all right in His place” Thinking about her answer, I believe most people, even some Christians have this attitude towards God. The obvious reply to what she said is… and where is God’s place? As Spirit filled Baptised Bible believers, we know and understand, Almighty God, The Creator of the Universe desires to reside in our hearts and occupy our minds. This is the God who has the Universe in His hands, yet we want to restrict Him . This will never happen, because the created can never be greater than the Creator. How sad to think that we put restrictions on this God who loves us so much that He gave His only Son to be sacrificed on a cross for us.
We need to ask ourselves, Why do people enjoy and like us, or not like and enjoy us? the answer in both cases is the same, because we carry that priceless Jewel of God’s Holy Spirit within us, and if we truly follow His promptings we will lead souls to Christ. That will happen as we get more and more passionate for God, and His Son Jesus. Then people will realise the only way they can have that priceless jewel is by accepting Jesus as their Lord and saviour and becoming a child of God, willing to be led by The Holy Spirit.
Leading people to Christ is not always an easy task, and sometimes can take months, or even years and a lot of prayer and commitment, but remember what Jesus said in (Luke 15:7) “There will be more joy in heaven over one repentant sinner, than Ninety nine who don’t repent” (Paraphrased) so if we are truly passionate about God let all heaven and earth know about it. We don’t have to do God’s job for Him, Nevertheless, we are required to fulfil the great commission in (Mark16;15) “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all Nations.” I think the road to success in this area is cluttered with detours, problems and disappointments. And if we don’t have the right mindset, our passion and attitude towards God, His gifts to us and indeed our very Faith itself can slowly fade away. I agree, there are days when the needle on our passion metres will be on empty. On those days we need to recall the commitment we made to God to never allow anything to come between Him and us, Satan is working hard to dissuade you and me to give it all away. And go back. Go back to what? What can the world offer us that can replace what we have in Christ. A new house, a new car, millions of “Lotto “ Dollars? Now, look at your life, how many years will you have to enjoy all that? Now do the maths. Forty or fifty years is no match for eternity.
Remember when you were first Baptised in the Holy Spirit, you couldn’t stop talking about it, and you couldn’t get enough of Him. Have you forgotten, gone cold, or just don’t have that passion for Jesus any more, on those days, we need to remember, God gave you that passion and those dreams. Take that “empty tank” to God and ask Him for a refill, God knows we are human and there are times we all need a top-up and the strength to go forward. In Psalm (18;29) we read “For you will light my lamp; The Lord my God will enlighten my darkness. For by you I can run against a troop, by my God I can leap over a wall.”
Who gives you the power to run and leap? God! But you can’t sit back, fold your arms, and think enthusiasm, happiness and passion will all fall into your lap. No!, God wont do it all for you. For your passion to continue, you will need God’s presence, inspiration and guidance everyday and when you put in the perspiration you will receive the manifestation of a renewed passion for Christ and the things of God which will grow in you that are worth striving for. And if your passion is truly for Christ, the price tag wont stop you. I have found the more I strive and search for Jesus, the more He reveals Himself to me. One of my favourite Scriptures is (Jeremiah 29:13) “When you seek me with all your heart, you will find me.) You will get up every morning, draw on God’s grace and take one more step in the direction of the passion you know God has put in your heart for Him.
The Bible tells us “God is Love” and Paul says “Love is the greatest gift of all”. I believe our gifts of Praise,Thanksgiving, and love for God is what He treasures most, when they are set on fire by our passion as we press towards life eternal with our God.
Thank you for reading my thoughts on “Passionate Faith.” I pray it helps on your Journey through life.
May God be with us all,
Phaline.
